Professor Mohamed Moncef KHALDI

 

Born in Tozeur (south-west Tunisia) on December 5th, 1944 Doctor Mohamed Moncef KHALDI studied medicine at the University of Tunis and was among the first graduates in 1964-1969. He learned neurology and neurosurgery in Tunis hospitals from Professors Mongi BEN HMIDA and Abdelkrim BETTAIEB. Then, he moved to Paris and did a training course from 1971-1974, in hospital Henri MONDOR (Professor J.P. CARON) and hospital La Salpêtrière (Professor B. PERTUISET).

In 1982, Doctor M.M. KHALDI was promoted as Professor in Neurosurgery and Head Department of Neurosurgery in the National Institute of Neurology, Tunis from 1987 until 2009. During that period and for more than 20 years, Doctor M.M. KHALDI introduced many new surgical technologies and modern neurosurgical procedures with a special interest to vascular and skull base neurosurgery.                                He trained many young Tunisian neurosurgeons. His disciples are, at present, in all Tunisian hospitals.

Doctor Mohamed Moncef KHALDI founded the Tunisian Society of Neurosurgery in June 1991. He was one of the founders of the Pan Arab Society of Neurosurgery in 1996. He was also an active member of the French Speaking Society of Neurosurgery (SNCLF).

He died on June, 30th 2012.

Professor of Neurosurgery in the Egyptian Military Medical Academy, fellow inter college of surgeons; member of the American Congress of Neurosurgery; Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Honorary President of the Egyptian society of Neurological Surgeons. President of PAN African Association of Neurosurgery in 2002. Honorary President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. Member of International Liaison and advisory panel of Neurosurgery and Editorial Board of Surgical Neurosurgery. Member of Helioplis Sporting Club. Automobile club of Egypt, Alexandria Yachting club, Alexandria club. Publisher of various papers on neurosurgery in national and international journals. Awards: from Morocco and Egyptian government.
